A case that entered world literature: The abdomen and liver were covered in cysts! The cat-dog cyst, which reached 90 centimeters, was removed! "It could have caused death."

Farmer Asiye Taşdelen applied to Trabzon Kanuni Training and Research Hospital due to swelling and pain in her abdomen.
During the examination and imaging tests performed on Taşdelen by health officials, three separate cat and dog cysts were detected in her liver, each measuring 90 centimeters and covering her abdomen.
Following the decision to operate on the patient, which lasted 2 hours, two of the cysts were removed and one was evacuated and taken under control by General Surgery Specialist Operator Dr. İsmet Çelik and Gastroenterology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aydın Aktaş.
Dr. Çelik stated that this is the first time in world literature that a cyst that reaches 90 centimeters and fills the entire abdomen has been encountered, and explained the transmission routes of the disease, known as cat-dog cyst.
Dr. Çelik explained that this disease is caused by parasites that enter the human body through direct contact with the feces of stray animals and pets not subject to veterinary care, or through soil, water, or food contaminated with feces. Dr. Çelik warned that cysts can eventually settle in the liver, lungs, and other organs, leading to serious health problems.
Dr. Çelik, explaining that the patient's entire abdomen was covered in cysts, said, "Kanuni Training and Research Hospital in Trabzon has become a pioneer. Our patient came to us from Gümüşhane with abdominal distension and pain. Upon arrival, we performed further tests and discovered a mass filling his entire abdomen. Upon further examination, we discovered that the cyst had formed from a cat or dog. Our patient had comorbidities. We evaluated the case with the relevant medical specialists to rule out these conditions. We discussed the suitability of our patient for surgery. We decided on surgery based on the council's decision. Our patient had three separate cysts in his liver. His entire abdomen was covered with cysts. We removed two of them completely. We examined the other one and evacuated it. We have never seen a cyst that reached 90 centimeters and filled the entire abdomen in the world literature. The surgery took two hours. Our patient's bile ducts were checked. He is doing very well. He can breathe independently, independent of a ventilator. We will transfer him to the ward tomorrow."
Dr. İsmet Çelik explained that cat and dog cysts in the human body are usually transmitted through animal feces or food consumption and can be discovered incidentally. He said, “Asiye is a housewife who farms. Therefore, she has contact with cats and dogs. Since they keep pet cats and dogs, they hadn't considered the possibility of such a thing. This cyst developed over a period of more than four to five years. The presence of the cyst is revealed through a blood test or any screening. It can occur in anyone. It can infect the liver, lungs, and other organs. This cyst is a disease transmitted through the feces and food consumed by cats and dogs. Cat and dog cysts are usually discovered incidentally. They settle in the liver. This was the case in our patient.”
Çelik, issuing a warning to citizens who come into contact with cats and dogs, said, "Our biggest fear is an allergic reaction. If a 90-centimeter cyst spreads throughout the body, it could cause death. We are taking precautions against any undetected spread. People who come into contact with cats and dogs should check to see if the animals are healthy and carry the cat-dog cyst."
